rainy days and tuesdays

July 26th, 2005 by epoyz

hell of a long weekend, huh? rain on saturday screwed everything up, though. didn’t kickstart my 3-day weekend right, i’m telling you. plus all this extra precipitation is messing with my concentration (heh?), forcing me to drag myself out of bed later than usual, causing me to skip my training sessions for our upcoming basketball tournament. my ass will probably be kicked around the court again because of all this rain. that’s right. i’ll blame it on the rain like milli vanilli.

the president’s SONA made monday even longer. if you missed it, good for you. it was weak. i think nothing will top tita cory’s SONA back in the day, where she referred to juan ponce enrile as "langaw".. now that’s gangsta.

is this right? i read from this that her speech got 5 standing ovations and 33 rounds of applause? really? i know that the whole crowd is crawling with her supporters anyway, but 5 standing Os and 33 rounds of applause? were they also serving booze?

and she’s really pushing for a parliamentary form of government. i may have to agree with them bishops that she may be angling for a less-humiliating exit (i don’t think it will ever be graceful, though). eh sino naman kaya ang magiging prime minister? nag-react naman agad si idol eddie, overacting masyado pagka-OA nitong tanders na ‘to. sensitive. ang ibig nya lang kasi sabihin e: "natural, ayoko nang magnakaw ulit! nakalusot na ko dati, eh!!".. bow!

lance armstrong rode into cementing his place in the record books with his 7th tour de france win. dude really inspired a lot of people, being a cancer survivor (the testicular kind, no less..that’s nasty..) and all. had his share of haters, though, accusing him of being a dopehead and all other kinds of shit. some people just can’t believe that sheer will and determination can take you where no man has ever been. maybe that’s because a lot of us concede that some things are just too impossible to do. some people just do not have it in them to put in the extra work necessary, and just resort to hating the people who do. i believe that lance armstrong willed himself to all those victories. dude works h-a-r-d.

plus, having a testicle or two removed probably won’t do bad for your biking, right?

i admit hating on shawn kemp when he fell from grace, because he was one of my all-time favorite players (and playas). but this story of his comeback bid opened my eyes to what type of person he is. this reminded me again that you should never fall victim to believing what the media hypes up. hypocrites make money off you by hyping you up, but they know they’ll make much more in tearing you down. just ask harry potter. turns out dude is deeper than what i read. and a comeback at 35? you just know he’s not in this for the money. it’s all love now, baby.

i’m an addict for comeback stories. they get me high and a-m-p-e-d. silencing-the-critics types of comebacks, shutting-the-haters-down flicks, refusing-to-accept-it’s-over-and-coming-all-the-way-back tales. you’ll never know how happy i was when grant hill made it all the way back to the all-star game, catching that alley-oop and throwing it down. i think it was dr. j who told him in the warmups, that he doesn’t need to win a championship anymore. what he did was far more meaningful than a championship. word. the place where he came back from was deeper than the grave, man. and he almost died in the process. if you don’t know, look it up. damn. i love it when good people make the haters look bad.

the cavaliers suffered a setback and may have to settle for marko jaric. larry bird got the coldblooded shooter. i believe in the guy, since when he ran circles around the USA team in the 2000 olympics and almost burned them with a last-second trey in the semifinals.

this guy must really need the money.. i don’t know, man. this just doesn’t feel right on a couple of levels.

so they’re planning a wonder woman movie for 2007. that’s why i keep hearing discussions about who should get the role, because the producers are still looking for diana. if you ask me, jennifer connelly should be a lock for this. i mean, come on..

and my dog ryan "van wilder" reynolds as the flash? yes. i remembered this bit of news because i just watched alanis morissette perform on leno. her voice still makes the hair on my arms stand on end. but i’m afraid i have to say that i ain’t digging her bangs. it’s ass-ugly, girl. if you’re getting married to papah ryan better remedy that before the wedding.

and finally i came across this article about superstitious athletes. tutong na siguro yung shorts na yun ni jordan. shempre di masyado nilalabhan yun kasi 1982-83 pa yung shorts na yun, e, mas madali maluluma. bango..

since i don’t have much of a parting shot in mind, i just want to share that these lyrics keep repeating inside my head lately. i’m not sure why..

"..it has to start somewhere
   it has to start sometime..
..what better place than here?
   what better time than now?"
